WHS was pleased to welcome Gov. Janet Mills today for a ceremonial signing of the new "Bell to Bell No Cell" cell phone ban legislation that will go into effect in August at all Maine schools. Co-Principal Patrick Colgan welcomed guests and introduced speakers, student Ezra B. teacher Meredith Diamond, and Policy Committee chair and cell phone committee member Erin Cavallaro. Special guests included Rep. Sue Salisbury, Rep. Drew Gattine, and Sen. Jill Duson, Speaker of the House Ryan Fecteau, Senate President Mattie Daughtry, Commissioner of Education Pender Makin, Westbrook Mayor David Morse, City Councilor Anna Turcotte, School Committee chair Andrea Mancuso, School Committee members Erin Cavallaro and Dr. Flynn Ross, and school department leaders Dr. Peter Lancia, Dr. Kim O'Donnell, and Dr. Brian Mazjanis. Several students and teachers also attended the event and were pleased to chat with Governor Mills, take pictures, and even get a few hugs. This was the first time a sitting governor has visited WHS! Thank you to everyone who made this special day possible.
