WRVC’s Business students visited the University of Maine on Friday! In addition to exploring the campus, both Tech 1 and Tech 2 students had the opportunity to work with Jason Harkins, Dean of the Maine Business School, and Julia Van Steenberghe, Director of Student Success.

During the visit, students participated in an informational workshop and a hands-on activity focused on collaboration and problem-solving. Working in small groups, they developed standard operating procedures (SOPs), gaining valuable insight into both the challenges and the importance of creating clear, effective processes.
Thank you to our Business Instructor, Jana Boody Billings, for organizing this incredible opportunity. Thank you to Bridge Academy for supporting this event!

Career Technology Education is known for being hands-on, but just as important, it is also minds-on! While we often showcase many action shots of our students in the shops, labs or outside doing site work, much of our programming is in the classroom through bookwork, trainings, certification prep, presentations and more. These components of CTE are crucial to student success!

WRVC teachers participated in a professional development visit to the Rotary House job site to see the work being completed through our Building Trades, Electricity and Heavy Equipment Operations Programs.
The visit provided an opportunity for staff to see students’ learning in action, celebrate program accomplishments, and explore meaningful ways for program collaboration to enhance real-world, hands-on learning experiences. As a result of this visit, our FIre Fighting students will be visiting this build site to learn more about building structures and fire codes.

Last year, two CTE instructors were selected to participate in the Emergent Literacy Facilitator Training. Darlene Bruns from the Westbrook Regional Center, along with Lauren Remington from the St. Croix Regional Tech Center, completed the training and have been busy training their students. Last week, WRVC students completed their Module 1 training, and all participants received certificates, earning 6.5 hours of professional development.

We would like to thank the Maine Department of Education and the Maine Department of Health and Human Services for the opportunity to attend this free training program, which has enabled us to offer these trainings at no cost to our students in the Education Pathways program. Being able to offer these trainings enhances our high school students' opportunities, reinforcing the importance of early reading skills in the younger generation.

WRVC's instructors worked with Instructional Coach, Jason Dionne, today focusing on HOWLs, Habits of Work and Learning. As we prepare students to enter the workforce, go to college, continue industry training or join the military we focus on these HOWLs: Respect, Integrity, Continuous Improvement, Inclusivity and Preparation. Today WRVC staff engaged in conversations reflecting on these areas and ways to strengthen these practices within their programs.
