WRVC at Hall of Flags CTE

Happy CTE Month!

During CTE Month, we proudly celebrate the transformative power of Career and Technical Education across our region and throughout Maine. As a regional CTE high school center serving students from multiple partnering high schools, we see every day how CTE opens doors by blending rigorous academics with hands-on, real-world learning that builds confidence, purpose, and career-ready skills. Our students graduate not only with technical expertise but with leadership experience, industry certifications, college credits, and a strong sense of direction for their futures. CTE truly represents opportunity in action... empowering students and strengthening Maine’s workforce and economy.

On February 12th, our students had the honor of representing our school at the Maine CTE celebration held in the historic Hall of Flags at the Maine State House in Augusta. Jackson L. (Building Trades – Gorham) delivered an outstanding student address, sharing firsthand the benefits of attending a CTE school and how hands-on learning has shaped his goals and confidence. He was joined by Izzy N. (Cosmetology – Windham), Nick E. (Culinary Arts – Bonny Eagle), Eron H. (Criminal Justice – Bonny Eagle), Jessie M. (EMT – Gorham), and Benjamin G. (EMT – Windham), each proudly representing their programs. A huge thank you to our students, Ms. DeCosta, our Cosmetology teacher, and Ms. Atripaldi, our Building Trades educational technician for showcasing our school by sharing our recruitment video, presenting a slideshow highlighting each program, displaying tools and artifacts from our classrooms, and enthusiastically answering questions from visitors. It was a powerful day of advocacy and celebration, demonstrating the benefits of CTE learning for students across our state.

“Career and Technical Education isn’t a backup plan; it’s a smart plan. “Westbrook Regional Vocational Center has given me skills, confidence, direction, and opportunities I never imagined I’d have in high school.” This was part of Jackson L's speech at the Hall of Flags. Jackson is a second-year Building Trades student and won Gold at the Maine SkillsUSA competition in cabinetmaking and placed 16th out of 39 competitors at Nationals, as a sophomore!
