Good Morning Congin Cougar Families,
Happy Wednesday, and Happy October 1st! Can you believe that we are already in October? The weather makes it feel otherwise, but time is flying by!
We continue to be working hard at Congin. Here are some updates for this week:
It is Wednesday, so that means it is an early release day! Students will be dismissed starting at 2:20pm. Please make sure that you are outside waiting for your child off of the bus, or you are here at 2:25pm to pick your child up.
Today, we finish up our work with Responsibility! The students did an amazing job and earned 820 paw stickers for their acts of responsibility! This was well over our goal of 400 by the end of this month. To celebrate using our "Cougar Code", we will have a Congin Spirit Day this Friday by wearing blue, yellow, or any Congin attire!
We will be having an assembly today to roll out our new theme of Respect. We have invited our school bus drivers to come and join us and we will discuss how we can be respectful at home, at school and on the bus! Students are going to be earning pumpkin stickers for the month when they are caught being respectful!
Our kindergarteners will be participating in "Meet at the 50" on Friday, where they will go to the football field and receive a t-shirt from a Westbrook senior. To help with this scheduling shift, 3rd grade and kindergarten will be switching lunch and recess times. Thank you to our third grade team for making this switch work.
Our PTO has a wonderful fundraising opportunity this Saturday, Oct 4 at Ace Hardware in Westbrook. Last year at this event over $800 was raised! This money supports our school's classrooms and community events. Volunteering requires simply greeting customers, taking donations, and providing a token for a percentage off in store. Afternoon shifts include grilling lunch items with all necessary materials provided by Ace Hardware. It's easy and family friendly- kids can join you and help! Please sign up using this PTO sign up genius: Congin PTO: Congin PTO Fall Volunteer Opportunities!
Don't forget that picture day is on October 17th! Order forms are being sent home this week. On the ordering form, there is a link and code to order online. You can also fill out the form and send it with your child with a check written out to Strawbridge Studios, or please provide the exact amount of cash. We will not be able to provide any change, so please make sure that if you are paying with cash, it is the exact amount.
Ted McInerney, meteorologist from WMTW, will be coming to Congin on October 8th! Students and families are invited to come to the live broadcast at 5:45am! This is something we have done every year, and the students get excited to have an opportunity to be on TV. This year, we will even have hot cocoa, Willow Mobile Coffee Truck will be in our bus circle, and there will be treats for students to enjoy!
October 10th is a professional development day for staff, so there will be no school for students.
October 13th is Indigenous People's Day, so there will be no school.
It's a great day to be a cougar!
Sincerely,
Marc Bisson
